Analysis Of ERC Transportation - 1162 Words

It is our pleasure to provide our ERC Transportation Committee members and other interested readers of our Transportation Update Newsletter with a recap of the Committee’s Meeting at the 57th CSG-ERC Annual Meeting Regional Policy Forum hosted by the State of Connecticut from August 13 through August 16 in Uncasville, CT. Chairman John Wisniewski welcomed the attendees and noted the importance and timely nature of the topics and presentations that were to follow. In keeping with the Annual Meeting’s theme of the â€Å"States of Change† Chairman Wisniewski noted that our ERC member organizations all are dealing with an â€Å"unsettled and unpredictable† period. He noted that in the transportation field not only do we have to deal with the†¦show more content†¦NTSB does not have the ability to implement any changes and he noted that only the federal and state governments and their administrative arms can enact, implement and enforce the changes. The focus of the next session of the Committee meeting was a panel discussion on Autonomous Vehicles (AVs). The panel consisted of Amy Parmenter, the Manager of Public and Government Affairs for the Greater Hartford (CT) - AAA Allied Group; Representative Devin Carney of the Connecticut General Assembly, and Matt Powers, General Manger for Uber Technologies. Ms. Parmenter’s presentation focused on the public perception of AVs based upon a AAA survey of 12 states including many states in ERC region. The AAA’s goal is to provide a better understanding and knowledge to all drivers since the technology seems to be advancing and automobile manufacturers are introducing different components of enhanced driver assistance technologies into the marketplace. Lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, parking assist, and automatic braking/forward collision warning are examples of the newly introduced features.
